Deciding Between JEUVEAU® and BOTOX® Treatments

It goes without saying that BOTOX is among the most popular cosmetic injectable products today and certainly one of the most widely used wrinkle relaxers – but it’s not the only one. In recent years, a number of new injectable neurotoxins have made their debut, giving patients a broader range of solutions to choose from – something which has left many men and women wondering if they should continue using BOTOX or explore one of their other options. Patients just beginning their injectable journey also have questions about which wrinkle relaxer is best – and the answer can vary from person to person. At Lazerdoc in Leavenworth, KS, board-certified physician and aesthetic specialist Dr. Leah Waage helps patients better understand which cosmetic injectables may be most appropriate and effective for their unique needs.

What are neuromodulators?

Also known as neurotoxins, injectable neuromodulators are commonly used in aesthetics to temporarily smooth out lines and wrinkles associated with various muscle movements and facial expressions, like smiling or frowning. Some injectable neurotoxins can also be used for medical purposes, such as reducing underarm sweat or mitigating chronic migraine headache symptoms. Among the most popular cosmetic injectables for wrinkle relaxing are BOTOX, XEOMIN®, and JEUVEAU.

Comparing BOTOX vs. JEUVEAU

As one of the newer injectable neurotoxins available now, JEUVEAU is gaining popularity – though many patients are not as familiar with the product as they may be with other wrinkle relaxers, like BOTOX. In general, BOTOX and JEUVEAU are very similar, with both FDA-approved products containing a purified (but different) strain of botulinum toxin. Both products are injected directly into certain facial muscles to block signals to the nerves, forcing the muscle to relax and surface lines to become less noticeable. Another similarity between JEUVEAU and BOTOX is that they both provide results that last about 3 – 4 months, although some patients report slightly longer results with JEUVEAU. One notable difference between JEUVEAU and BOTOX is that JEUVEAU is FDA approved for aesthetic/cosmetic use only, while BOTOX can be used in a medical setting – meaning, to treat headaches, bladder spasms, or hyperhidrosis, for example.

What kinds of lines can JEUVEAU treat?

Just like BOTOX, JEUVEAU can be used to reduce the visibility of dynamic lines and wrinkles on the face. These are the lines and wrinkles that appear with certain facial expressions and, with age, often begin to linger even while the face is at rest, including:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Forehead wrinkles
  • Brow lines
  • Frown lines
  • Glabellar lines (11 lines)

Should I switch to JEUVEAU?

If you have been a longtime BOTOX user and have been happy with your results, there may be no reason to switch to a different injectable. However, some men and women find that they prefer the look, feel, or longevity of certain injectable products over others and enjoy experimenting with (or alternating between) various products. During your initial consultation for facial injectables in Leavenworth, KS, our expert team will discuss all of your available options and help create a treatment plan customized just for you.
